Conclusion - Winning the War At Home      [Iraq Track Main Page and Menu]

The United States military simply cannot be defeated on the battlefield. The problem lies with those that have worked to undermine the war effort and second guess the President's motives for liberating Iraq. No doubt it has become a difficult struggle, with daily violence and killings - but Iraq is simply a small piece of a very big problem that we will be facing for many years to come. The regime of Saddam Hussein developed and used deadly weapons, supported and harbored terrorists, funded terror activities and training camps, invaded neighboring countries, made weapons deals with our enemies, brutalized and deprived its people, flipped the bird to 17 United Nations resolutions, and attempted to assassinate a U.S. president. It was simply impossible to allow him to remain in power and hope for anything resembling peace in that region, and stay on target with the goal of eliminating global terrorism threatening the U.S. Not removing him would have been irresponsible. Criticism can always me made about the handling of the war, but the need for regime change was a no-brainer. Many political supporters and advocates of this action before the war have gutlessly abandoned their resolve - or worse, have been actively trying to derail an American led victory.

From within the general public, those in the anti-Iraq liberation crowd generally fall into one or more of the following categories:
a) are unaware of the facts surrounding the decision to go into Iraq (this website should fix that)
b) choose to ignore the facts guided by an irrational emotional hatred for George W. Bush - "Bush lied, stole the election, blah blah blah..." Example 1, Example 2, Example 3
c) truly dislike this country, what is stands for, and what it has accomplished - "we're the problem..." Example 1, Example 2
d) are rallying for a terrorist victory - Example 1
The popular misguided arguments are - "Iraq didn't attack us", "he was contained", "he was no threat to the U.S.", "everybody knew he didn't have any weapons", "we're sending kids to die for nothing", "al-Qaeda wasn't in Iraq", "Iraq isn't a part of the war on terror", "George Bush wanted war before he took office", "we should have invaded Iran or North Korea instead", - and the mother of all tripe - "It was all for the oil!"

Even faced with overwhelming facts and evidence to which the only logical conclusion is to remove Saddam Hussein, it is still within everyone's right to disagree or dissent. However - when prominent members of the U.S. Congress, as well as a host of entertainers, celebrities, academics, and ex-presidents make their way to foreign countries to slam America and their president - it fits the definition of treason. The constant negative drum beat from the press, politicians, and prominent Americans is seized upon by our enemies and used to inspire their radical movements to fight another day. It's impossible to come up with a particular number, but you can be certain that many American war deaths would have been avoided if America was seen as having one united front by our enemies. Thanks democrats!

The anti-Iraq-liberation crowd today loves to give credit to the anti-war movement of the 60s for ending the Vietnam war, when in fact it was that very movement that led to an American defeat by way of encouraging the enemy to hang on. Bui Tin, who served on the general staff of the North Vietnamese army called the US antiwar movement "essential to our strategy", saying that visits from prominent American activists Jane Fonda and Ramsey Clark and various church ministers "gave us confidence that we should hold on in the face of battlefield reverses". He concluded that South Vietnam could have maintained its independence from the North if not for America's sudden decision to withdraw its support: "Through dissent and protest, America lost the ability to mobilize a will to win."

In addition, the withdrawal of the U.S. from Vietnam led to the deaths of millions in Loas, Cambodia, and Vietnam at the hands of the ruthless advancing communist North Vietnamese. A wonderful accomplishment for the "peace" movement - all but forgotten today. There are those now calling for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq before the job is done - abandoning a developing ally, and going back on the promise of providing stability. Fortunately, at least for the time being, America has not fallen pray to the backwash that doomed us in Vietnam. Read: "Peace movements don't bring peace, but more war". - By Thomas Sowell

As the greatest force for good on the face of the earth, America will emerge victorious from the war in Iraq, and prevail in the greater "War on Terror" against radical militant Islam. With all that is known about the Saddam Hussein regime, there was more than enough justification for a preemptive invasion. Iraq has become the central front on fighting these terrorist radicals, and this only underscores the necessity of prevailing there. We are the good guys, and a greater percentage of Americans need to wake up, understand the threats, get on board with "winning", and forget about baseless self blame and the need to "understand" evil. Unfortunately, it is becoming clear that we have many more enemies to defeat - such as the Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who is pledging the destruction of the West citing it as the religious "duty" of all Muslims. Terrorism did not start with, and will not end with the presidency of George W. Bush, but at least the confrontation has been launched by someone willing to face and defeat the perpetrators regardless of public opinion, polls, or political fallout. Certainly mistakes have been made - but opponents, political and otherwise, must stop throwing sand in the gears of success and get back to a patriotic, positive, America-first attitude. Peace through strength and defeat of this enemy is the only way.

Think - a united international community, and in particular a united American population, (including citizens, politicians, entertainers, and the press) would most likely have convinced the regime of Saddam Hussein to comply with United Nations demands, avoiding the war we now face. Terrorists worldwide are using U.S. politicians and their allies in the press and defeat this country from within. Read the strategy in their own words
